We held 2 Parent-Child Workshops in 2024:
Mondays, April 22-May 20, 2024, 2:00-3:15 and Thursdays October 10-November 7, 1:30-2:15.
The Monday workshops had the better participation by families, with 11 families participating overall. Our Thursday workshops apparently fell during nap times, and the families that did attend usually arrived 10-15 minutes late. Our 4th Thursday workshop fell on Halloween, and nobody showed up except for our community professional. We had 5 families attend, overall. Our expectation had been that with a Thursday program families would come to our Story Time program, and then come back for the workshop, but that did not happen. However, our Thursday workshop families have become regular attendees at our Story Time Programs.
Overall our PCW are met with enthusiasm from our patrons, but even with emails and phone calls, we are still experiencing weak attendance.
Our next scheduled PCW is for Mondays, April 21-May 19, 10:00-11:15, with the expectation of better participation with it being a morning program.
Our Children's Room is where we have seen the most improvement with increase in usage by families. We were shut down for about 8 weeks for renovations in August and September, and re-opened in early October. We've received many compliments from parents and children stating how much they enjoyed coming to the Children's Room. We had one military family share that the NCO from the military parent's unit say that our library was to library to go to if you had young children.
Providing other early childhood programming in addition to our Toddler Time and Story Time programs is the next goal for our library. At this time we have a Touch-A-Truck event scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, 2025, during spring break. A sensory exploration program is in the planning stage, but most likely to be scheduled after tax season, or Summer Reading.
