Howard County Library, located in Big Spring, Texas, is a part of a growing and thriving community in the Permian Basin. The library offers the community a place to gather and participate in various programs. Joining Family Place Libraries™ has allowed the library to provide a family friendly space for children and their caregivers, as well as provide a workshop specifically for children birth age to five and their caregivers.  These play-based workshops give children a chance to explore and learn through play with their parents or caregivers. During these 5-week workshops parents/caregivers can speak to a resource professional for any questions they might have in the areas of child development, nutrition, speech, language and hearing. Currently we aim to hold these workshops twice a year, in the Spring and Fall. Registration is required for the workshop, please call the library and ask to speak with the children’s librarian.

The Family Place space is located in the children’s area of the library, and it is open to the public during normal business hours. The play area offers toys and manipulatives specifically for children ages 0-5, as well as parenting books and children’s books. The Family Place space gives families in our community an opportunity to socialize with other families, for children to foster a love of learning through play and a love of the library.
