The early learning play space at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library provides children and their families with opportunities to interact with fun and engaging toys, manipulatives, and books. This welcoming space located behind our iconic castle is a destination for many families. The children’s entrance at the Civic Center Library leads out to a children’s playground to extend the fun outside. Civic Center Library offers our parent/child workshop called Stay & Play which focuses on the core components of the Family Place Libraries™. In addition to Stay & Play and a multitude of regularly scheduled storytimes, there are numerous parent-child interactive programs (enhanced storytimes) under our Knowing & Growing programs umbrella. These enhanced storytimes are comprehensive programs that utilize literacy strategies, books, songs and rhymes, as well as play-based interactions to support development and understanding of social and emotional development, children’s approaches to learning, and science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) concepts. When parents and caregivers have opportunities to actively engage with their child in the learning process the impact on their child’s growth and development is unparalleled.
