The strategic plan of the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library includes a goal that all children in our county will be ready for kindergarten. At an administrative level, the library is a part of resource alignment and community impact efforts surrounding early childhood. While at the personal level, we provide all sorts of ways for families to find connection, support and play. Parents and grandparents exercise baby arms and legs during bounces in Baby Bookworms. Toddlers explore, paint, tear, stack, sort, pound and practice taking turns with all sort of activities and toys on the Learn & Play Bus. Kids of all ages can shop at the Farmer's Market, fly to the moon, bake cakes that have 10 tiers, and put bandages on injured tiger cubs in our playscapes. All the while resources and connections to early childhood development experts is always close at hand. Oh, and there are books, lots and lots of books. We are invested in the parent-child relationship as a way to grow the individual, the family, and the community.
