Middle Country Public Library is the national model for Family Place Libraries and has two locations; MCPL-Centereach and MCPL-Selden.

We are part of numerous outreach and collaborations throughout our community and are very proud of our partnership with Family Service League, Inc., which allows us to have a social worker working within our library locations for 15 hours per week.

This year, we were able to partner with our school district and schedule visits for all of our UPK families.  All Middle Country Central School District Pre-K students and their parents came in for hour and a half visits. They explored the play space enjoying a storytime, enjoying imaginative play activities, and signing up for library cards. We saw 787 children, parents and teachers over the course of 25 visits. We implemented Operation Safe Child which was created to raise awareness about child safety. This program processed  up-to-date photographs with detailed information about the child, which can greatly assist in emergency situations.

Operation Safe Child ID Cards were offered by Suffolk County Sheriff's Office free of charge in partnership with Assemblyman Doug Smith.

We worked in collaboration with the Smithsonian Office of Educational Technology and Penn State University and were awarded an IMLS National Leadership grant to modify and implement new digital toolkits for families throughout the country. These toolkits utilize artifacts from our Nation’s Smithsonian along with books, and other rich activities to enhance literacy and child development.  Our library is truly one of the most loved destinations for families within our community.
