Middle Country Public Library

Middle Country Public Library is the national model for Family Place Libraries and has two locations; MCPL-Centereach and MCPL-Selden.

We are part of numerous outreach and collaborations throughout our community and are very proud of our partnership with Family Service League, Inc., which allows us to have a social worker working within our library locations for 15 hours per week. 

This year, we were able to partner with our school district and schedule visits for all of our UPK families.  All Middle Country Central School District Pre-K students and their parents came in for hour and a half visit. They explored the play space enjoying a storytime, enjoying imaginative play activities, and signing up for library cards. We saw 771 children, parents and teachers over the course of 24 visits. 

We implemented Child Safety Seat Inspections offered by New York State Troopers during our Trunk or Treat event. The inspections are to ensure there aren’t any recalls and check to see if their child’s car seat is expired and installed correctly.  

We partnered with Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine and they came and ran a table at our library with activities and information about going to the dentist.

We have seen a significant increase in our infant- toddler programs this year. Our Play & Chat program has seen an increase in    number of parents, caregivers and nannies attending this parent support program in the Fall, Winter & Spring. Our library is truly one of the most loved destinations for families within our community.
