Since becoming a Family Place Library we have seen a steady stream of library users both new and old. We have noticed many new faces in the library that did not realize the scope of programming and services that we provide. We have been promoting and providing more family based programs like our recently successful bus trip to the Bronx Zoo in April and our upcoming Family Tai Chi program this summer. Another program that we have for young children is 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten which promotes early literacy for children aged birth through kindergarten. We have also recently built an interactive wall in our early childhood space that children can play on anytime the library is open. Along with this we also have a crayon kiosk set up near our computer area designated for young children. The two ipads on the kiosk contain apps appropriate for early childhood that children can use anytime. Our STEAM station is also a very popular area that young children like to use. It is located near our librarians’ desk and contains interactive activities for students to play with. Every month the topic and activities for the station changes. Topics include magnets, puzzles, and art. We are always looking to enhance the families’ experience at the library by offering new and innovative services and programs.
