The Midwest City Library is one of nineteen libraries in the Metropolitan Library System which provides services to Oklahoma County. We serve a diverse community that includes the residents and personnel of Tinker Air Force Base. Our branch is Family Place Certified and hosts many programs designed for children ages birth to five. In addition to offering the Parent/Child Workshop, 123! Play With Me! biannually, we host two Storytimes per week, and Way Fun Wednesday every Wednesday. Families can expect a variety of activities and focuses during Way Fun Wednesday including Parachute Play, Art Time, Sensory Play, and Toddler Dance Parties. In the children's book area, we have several dramatic play sets, soft blocks, a train table, a dollhouse, and a felt board for passive programming. We also supply comfortable seating for caregivers. Guests will find two stations stocked with manipulatives and a cloth reading tent in other areas of the library. Midwest City Library offered Child Development and Autism screenings provided by Child Guidance from the OU Health Science Center's Child Study Center. We are building relationships with other community organizations and plan to attend many outreach events in the future. The library also offers free take and make kits to families with children under the age of 5 on a bi-monthly basis. Most of the kits contain supplies for crafts and often require the assistance of an adult. The kits help children learn to follow instructions, use their creativity, and build fine motor skills.
