The families who visit our library always gravitate towards the play space. They greatly appreciate the educational and engaging toys available for their children to interact with, and the chance to have a low-stress play date with other young children in the community. This has also become a nice opportunity for caregivers to build small support systems and social groups. A highlight for patrons of all ages is our Axolotl, Axl Prose.
In-person Storytime’s and a youth LEGO Club occur weekly, giving children experience with fine motor skills and cognitive development. Monthly STEM exploration events are held, inviting children to engage with hands-on learning.
In addition to attending scheduled library programs, families are also encouraged to take home monthly Take-and-Make craft kits as well as interact with the craft shelf, which holds coloring pages and educational worksheets allowing children to express themselves creatively.
The Centre County Library also works to collaborate with local organizations that offer resources to youth. We have hosted partners offering free vision and hearing screenings, as well as developmental screenings.
