Allowing children to come in for a free play experience with age appropriate centers and toys is extremely important for social, emotional, and cognitive growth. The parents who attend get an opportunity to talk to myself (the children's librarian and former early childhood educator) as well as get information and a chance to talk with local people who work with young children. Many parents do not know what types of behavior and growth are typical or atypical. Having the opportunity for the young children to safely play while learning more about different resources that are right around us is extremely important and beneficial, especially since the CAP/WIC office is now located right next door.
