Richard A. Tucker Memorial Library is the newest addition to Norfolk Public Libraries, in Hampton Roads Virginia. The branch is named after Richard Allen Tucker, the Principal of the first school built by Norfolk for African American students, which opened in 1943 on the land where Richard A. Tucker Memorial Library now sits. Its Children's Library includes a 5,000 square foot outdoor classroom with active learning stations that offer a way to connect learning, literacy, and an appreciation of nature as a regular part of a library visit for children. In addition to this Nature Explorium, Tucker Library has a designated Kidzone with pretend play and manipulatives for growing children as well as a separate Playscape with soft play materials, designed for babies and toddlers to move and explore safely.
Tucker Library has a great deal of fun planning programming for our young patrons and their families, encouraging them to have fun, grow through imaginative play, create friendships and bonds with other families and staff, and helping them to develop lifelong learning skills through literacy. Our staff is proud of the part we play in the community and look forward to new experiences ahead!
